Epilepsy Awareness & Administration of Emergency Treatment Training

Teachers and classroom assistants at some point in their career may come into contact with a child experiencing an epileptic seizure. Epilepsy West Lothian can provide the training to teachers and classroom assistants to enable them to deal with seizures and administer emergency treatment effectively and safely.

This course is delivered over one day. The morning session will give participants an understanding of:

• What epilepsy is – myths and prejudices
• Causes & triggers
• Seizure classification
• Recognising and recording seizures
• First aid
• Social & psychological impact

The afternoon session will give participants an understanding of:

• First aid for seizures and emergency treatment
• Practical demonstration of administration of emergency treatment
• Legal & ethical issues

Upon completion of the course participants can then undertake an assessment to demonstrate their competence in administering emergency treatment.

A FIRST AID POSTER FOR SCHOOLS is available from Epilepsy West Lothian
