Children often learn by example
and other peoples negative or prejudiced attitudes
towards epilepsy can influence their attitudes.
The Education Outreach worker at Epilepsy West
Lothian provides free talks and information
material for children to enable them to have
an understanding of the condition of epilepsy
and dispel the myths and prejudices at a young
age.
By providing this service to
schoolchildren we can encourage them to understand
the condition and how to deal with seizures.
The talks are delivered to them in an interactive
way, which is aimed at their level of understanding.
In doing this children can be more aware of
disabilities in general and work towards a more
inclusive society.
The talks and material will
provide children with:
• An understanding of
what epilepsy is
• An understanding of different seizures
• How to deal with a seizure
• An understanding of how children with
epilepsy feel
• Enable the children to have understanding,
supportive attitude towards someone with epilepsy
